Brush Marvin (Larry’s 4th great-grandfather) served in a short campaign at Fishkill in Capt. Godfrey’s company of Col. Sam Whiting’s Regiment, Connecticut, 4th Militia in October 1777.

Brush Marvin is listed in the United States Revolutionary War Rolls as enlisting in Connecticut in October 1877.
Brush was a part of the campaign to fortify the Patriot position at Fishkill.

- "As for the position of Fishkill, the events of the campaign of 1777 had proved how important it was to occupy it. It was clear that the plan of the English had been, and was still, to render themselves masters of the whole course of the North [Hudson] River, and thus to separate the eastern states from those to the west and south. It was necessary therefore to secure a post on this river; West Point was chosen as the most important point to fortify, and Fishkill as the place the best adapted to the establishment of -the principal depot of provisions, ammunition, etc.; these two positions are connected with each other."
- Fishkill played an important role in the American Revolutionary War when a huge military encampment was established one mile (1.6 km) below the village to guard the mountain pass to the south. Signal fires lay in readiness on tops of the surrounding mountains. The Fishkill encampment became the main supply depot for the northern division of the Continental Army.
