Hendrick Roseboom (Lauren’s 3rd great-grandfather) served with the New Jersey militia in the Revolutionary War. It seemed as if he re-enlisted every month after his first enlistment, as he apparently enjoyed the life of a soldier. He would have been 19 years old at that time. He served under General Frederick Frelinghuysen, who was an American lawyer, soldier and senator from New Jersey.

During this portion of his service, Hendrick was part of the Battle of Springfield, (which was fought on 23 June 1780). He also stated that he served in Bergen Town (present-day Paramus), under General George Washington. (The American Troops were encamped there from September 4-20, 1780). Several more battles, including Germantown, are listed as part of his service, although it is unclear whether he served continuously through the War or if he returned home in between bouts of service. His signature appears at the end of his Revolutionary War Pension.
Further research into his Revolutionary War Pension produced another document which stated he had served as a Minuteman in the Battle of Long Island (27 August 1776). He received the amount of $33.33 per month until his death, which occurred on 1 April 1843 in Concord, Ross County, Ohio. He was buried in the Old Methodist Cemetery.
