As is typical with old government documents and military records, Corporal Alexander Neely Nilson's records were filed under several different names. Records were found for him under Alexander C. Nelson, Alex N. Nilson and Alex Nilson. There may be other filings that I've not found yet.

Corporal Alexander Neely Nilson enrolled 6 August 1862 in Jackson County Indiana. He mustered out from Madison Indiana on 20 August 1862 and was marched to Louisville Kentucky. He served in many battles during his tenure and was promoted to Corporal at some time during his tour with the 67th. During an engagement at Carrion Crow Louisiana he was wounded in his left arm and moved to lighter duty. On 21 December 1864 he was transferred to Co H, 24th Regiment and spent some time in Co K, 24th of that same unit. He was mustered out on 16 May 1865 from Murfreesboro TN. Contrary to conflicting reports The Adjutant General's book show's that he was a Corporal when he left the service. I use only official reports to put these memorials together, so this man is a Corporal not a Private.
