Jesse N. Bledsoe Jesse N. Bledsoe was a native born Virginian who sided with the Confederate side duringthe American Civil War. Mr. Bledsoe fought in the Virginia 6th Cavalry, however he faced anunpleasant end to his life at an early age. His life was diminished due to a severe fever he hadbeen fighting, unfortunately Mr. Bledsoe could not overcome it, dying on June 6th, 1864 at anage of 20.Jesse N. Bledsoe was born in the mid-1840s in Orange, Virginia. Jesse was the only sonof Moses and Sidney Bledsoe, who were both 54 years old during the 1860 year, who raisedJesse until he enlisted for the Civil War. Jesse had two siblings which were both females. Onewas ten and the other was thirteen. Before enlisting to go to combat Jesse was a very hard workerwho would have followed his father’s footsteps of becoming the owner of the farm that his dadhad been working hard to maintain. As a whole, the Bledsoe family seemed like a hard workinggroup and were living the American dream.During Jesse’s time in the Civil War he was not involved as much as he would havewanted to. Jesse was constantly absent and that was probably due to his health factors during thewar. Such as the fever he had to battle that later took his life away. Though Jesse was absent formajority of the times that battles took place, he went into combat with a great mentality and gaveit his all. He was a very determined fighter who very much defended the Confederate Army.Unfortunately, Jesse was wounded during the Battle of Fairfield on July 4th, 1863. AlthoughJesse was wounded, he healed and continued to serve for the Confederate Army for the time hehad remaining at the war.You can definitely see that Mr. Bledsoe’s war involvement was nowhere near a greatamount, but enlisting to fight in combat definitely deserves nothing but respect for Jesse N.Bledsoe. Despite Jesse having a short ride during the Civil War, he sure displayed what it takesto defend what you believe in. Though it is unsure about his true thoughts about the conflictbetween the Union and Confederates he showed great patriotism defending the ConfederateArmy. On June 6th, 1864, in the Chimborazo Hospital, Jesse passed away. Cause of death was asevere fever that Jesse could no longer bare. I am very sure if Jesse was able to continue hisjourney in the war, he would have made an even bigger difference to the Confederate Army. It isvery upsetting when you fight and give your all for your country and you are not able to see theoutcome for yourself to see the difference you made being involved in something as big as theCivil War. That is why we must honor Mr. Bledsoe for putting his life on the line as soon as heput on his uniform, as well as the other thousand soldiers that were part of one of the mostimportant happenings in American History. His memory will always be remembered and as wellas the living legacy Jesse N. Bledsoe left behind.
