The 6th Virginia Cavalry was a volunteer group of soldiers. None of them were drafted; they each joined by their own will. This group of fine men fought for their beloved Confederate brothers and sisters. A group of this cavalry was in Company B. Company B were all the men with last names starting with the letter B. Robert David Brooke was one of these fine gentlemen.

Robert David Brooke was a soldier during the Civil war and he fought for the confederates. Brooke served in Company B of the 6th Virginia Cavalry Regiment. Brooke was a simple man and was a farmer in the Rappahannock County of Virginia. He was born in 1825 in Rappahannock County Virginia. He enlisted on April 22nd 1861 at the age of 36. Robert David Brooke was happily married with three sons.

Brooke was Enlisted by Captain John Shac Green in Washington. He was mustered into service on May 20th 1861 by Major G. W. Brent and assumed the role of Private. Brooke was then first paid on June 30th. He was then paid again on November 1st 1861 but was absent and had to re-enlist. Robert David Brooke served under the General Robert E. Lee in Virginia in his final months. During his year of service he earned his family 174 dollars.

Brooke was in The First Battle of Bull Run in the fall month of September. He also took part in the Battle of Port Royal Sound in mid-December, and the Battle of Hampton Roads in early March. He then moved on to the Battle of Winchester in late April. Robert David Brooke was a part of 4 battles in his service towards the confederacy. During his service he worked closest to Captain John Shac Green of Virginia.

Robert David Brooke died on May 6th 1862. Brooke died due to a unknown disease while on picket duty in Rappahannock County Virginia. Although Robert David Brooke had one year of service he gave his life for the Confederates and defending what he believed in.
