KILLED IN IWO JIMA ATTACK

Wife and Two Children Survive John T. Large, Jr., Marine

Pvt. John T. Large, jr., 24, marine, was killed in action on Iwo Jima March 12, his wife, Mrs. Nellie Mae Large, who is living with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John T. Large, sr., 533 South Cedar, Independence, has been notified by the War department.
Private Large was participating in his first major engagement at the time of his death. He went into the service in June 1944. Prior to entering the service he was employed at the Standard Oil refinery in Sugar Creek. He attended school in Sugar Creek.
He also leaves two children, Tommie Lee Large, 3, and Rosette Jewel Large, 1. Also surviving are five brothers, Sergt. Lloyd Large, with the army in Germany; Harold Lee Large and Charles Large, merchant marine, and Marvin Large and Robert Large of the home, and two sisters, Helen Large and Bonnie Large of the home.
