He was authorized the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal,

American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Marksman Badge with

Carbine Bar, Motor Driver and Mechanics Badge with "W" Driver Bar, and the

European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign with two Bronze Service

Stars for participation in the Normandy Campaign and Northern France Campaigns.

Leading up to the month of May 1944, cargo was being received by ports all across England. During the month of May in the Port of Southampton, England, the port stopped receiving equipment and all effort was then focused to loaded and staging the equipment for the invasion of Normandy which began on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

On 13 May 1944, the 3539th QM Truck Co. was one of many units assigned to the ETO Transportation Corps. On 1 July 1944, the duty station of the 3595th is the port of Southampton, England.

Sometime, starting with D-Day his company left England and landed in France transporting equipment. Project Greenlight began on 21 June 1944 and ended on 23 July 1944. Most shipments delivered ammunition and mainly delivered to Omaha Beach. The 3595th is not listed as having participated in the June 6-7 assualt force however he was awarded the Normandy Campaign Medal.

Carlos is listed as Died Non-Battle; however, he died In the Line of Duty with the 3595th Quartermaster Trucking Company during night operations under total blackout conditions. He died in an accident. The truck that he was riding in was trying to cross a bridge and missed it somewhere in the Omaha Sector.

On the day he died, the Normandy beachhead had been unified and General Patton's Third Army was twenty-five miles from Paris.

Carlos was awarded the Normandy Campaign Medal for service between 6 June 1944 and 24 July 1944 [Operation Overlord or D-Day]

He was also awarded the Northern France Campaign Medal for service between 25 July 1944 and 14 September 1944
