Josiah was a farmer before he enlisted 4th August 1812 at Point Petre, Camden County, Georgia in Captain Cranford's Company. Upon his term expiring, Josiah again enlisted at Fort Hawkins 4th or 14th of December 1814 in Major Cook's Company. He served at Fort Hawkins as a Private until 21 December 1814 he was promoted to Corporal where he remain at his position and rank until being discharged from Fort Hawkins on 25 March 1815.

He received a Land Grant for his service in the War of 181, the deed was recorded 5 November 1822 in Clarke County, Alabama. Josiah remained in Alabama until his death. Today he has many descendants populating Georgia, Alabama, to Mississippi.
