Lewis was born ca 1789 in Rockingham Co. VA to Christain Bible, Sr. and Margareth (not known). The Bible family moved to Greene Co. TN in the 1780's which actually had been Washington Co. NC.. Lewis married Sarah Bottles between 1809 & 1810 at her father's home which was in then Washington Co. TN.

Lewis and Sarah had ten children--

1. Mary Elizabeth born 20 Jan 1812 in Greene Co. TN

2. William born 15 May 1814 in Greene Co. TN

3. James Edward born 10 Oct 1816 in Greene Co. TN

4. Mary christened 20 Feb 1819 in Greene Co. TN

5. Catherine christened 5 May 1821 in Greene Co. TN

6. Edaline born 20 Oct 1822 in Greene Co. TN

7. Philip H born 6 Jun 1826 in Greene Co. TN

8. Gabriel H. born 18 Sep 1828 in Greene Co. TN

9. Clarissa born 4 Jan 1831 in Greene Co. TN

10. Alexander born 31 Jan 1834 in Greene Co. TN (He is the only one who appears to have died young. No other records exist except his date of christening 2 Nov 1834.

Lewis served as a drummer boy in the TN Vols. He died 20 Oct 1843 in Greene Co. TN, but his burial place is only assumed. Sarah died 23 Aug 1837 in Greene Co. TN and her burial place is only assumed.

Since Lewis died before he could claim an 1812 pension, we know of his death and Sarah's in his intestate estate papers which are found in the Greene Co. TN courthouse. Many of the dates above were taken from that probate as William Bible the eldest son went to court to claim Bounty Land for his minor sister, Clarissa Bible.

Eleanor Rogers Edmondson is a descendant of Clarissa Bible who married Jonathan Debusk and moved to TX. They are buried at Holder's Chapel in Parker Co. TX. Researched and documented by Eleanor who is a member of the War of 1812.
