Herman Thomas Quattlebaum, Sr.

Herman Thomas Quattlebaum, Sr., 86, died Monday, October 28, 2013 at the VA Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 31, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Flora. Burial will follow in Flora Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Flora Baptist Church and will continue at 10 AM Thursday.

Mr. Quattlebaum was born on August 8, 1927 in Newton County, the son of the late John Howard Quattlebaum and Annie Addy Quattlebaum. A veteran, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marines after high school and served at the end of WWII in the European Theatre of Operations. Mr. Quattlebaum graduated from East Central Community College, where he studied automobile repair. He worked for J.D.'s One Stop Service and S&A Chevrolet in Flora. In 1971, Mr. Quattlebaum began his own business, Quattlebaum Auto Repair where he remained until his retirement. He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled airplanes, racing go carts and NASCAR. A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Flora, he was a member of the Sr. Men's Sunday school class. He will most be remembered as a loving husband, a beloved father, a cherished grandfather, brother and friend.

Survivors include: his wife, Jane Courtney Sigrest Quattlebaum of Flora; daughter, Janette Martin and husband Bill of Sand Hill, MS; sons, Tommy Quattlebaum of Flora; son, Randy Quattlebaum and wife Brenda of Flora; daughter, Johanna Bowman and husband Kenneth of Flora; son, Kevin Quattlebaum of Flora; 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren; brother, Leroy Quattlebaum and wife Sue of Decatur; sister, Elsie Hagan and husband Wayne of Union and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the home health caregivers for their care and compassion shown to Mr. Quattlebaum and his family during this time. Memorials may be made to the Building Fund, First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 163, Flora, MS 39071.
