Ebenezer served in Company E, 74th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. According to his pension file, he was honorably discharged on February 18, 1863 due to illness, of which asthma was mentioned. On August 11, 1890, Ebenezer applied for an Invalid Pension. In this document, he stated that he was partially unable to earn a support for the following reasons - kidney and liver trouble, heart trouble, lung trouble, results of Typhoid Pneumonia. He was 52 years old at the time of this application.
