1st Lieutenant John Taylor Dyatt (#O-763874) was born 11 November 1921 to Verne E and Nell E (nee Taylor) Dyatt in Kanorado, Kansas. He has 1 sister. He enlisted 2 July 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas.

He eventually ended up as part of the 350th bomber Squadron, 100th Bomber Group, Heavy which was based at Thorpe Abbots Field, England. On 7 November 1944, he was the pilot under command pilot Captain Stanley Alton Clark on B-17G #42-97561, nicknamed “Bachelor’s Heaven” which was a practice mission. A fire developed in the cockpit. The aircraft left formation in a descending turn. Six of the nine crew successfully bailed out. Clark, J.T. Dyatt and Tech Sergeant Donald Gustafson (flight engineer) were killed as well as three soldiers billeted in a house that the aircraft crashed into. He had completed 20 combat missions.

He is commemorated at Goodland Cemetery in Goodland, Kansas.
