Stories about John C Pemberton

Men who fought with John at Vicksburg

My great, great Uncle, John Henry McGarity, fought with John Pemberton at Vicksburg. We have his muster papers, and his payroll papers. We visited the park, and I was SO surprised at the "money" invested by Lincoln to make all those wonderful statues, and memoriam, and UNION gravesites, then down the road were all the CONFEDERATE gravesites, almost in paupers graves. I had no idea there are not any confederates buried in the national park sites dedicated to the civil war. Very interesting indeed.
