Stories about Peter W Crain

Peter Wood Crain is estimated to have been born in Alexandria, Virginia around the year 1840. In 1850 the US Census places a 10 year old Peter living in a Fauquier County, Virginia household under his father, Bailey Crain, whom was a farmer, landowner and slaveholder. Peter W. Crain moved to Louisiana sometime in between September 28, 1860 and July 13, 1861. On March 11, 1862 Peter enlisted in Company K, Crescent Regiment of the Louisiana Infantry. By orders of General Bragg, Crain was transferred to the Orleans Light Horse Calvary on August 31, 1862. On April 20, 1863, Peter W. Crain is ordered by the Secretary of War to transfer as a Private to the 4th Virginia Black Horse Calvary. Crain was killed in action on October 11, 1863 in Stevensburg, Virginia.
