Biographical Sketch

    Private John Calvin Campbell was born ca. 1833.

    In 1860 he was living near Quincy, Gadsden County, Florida, at his father Alex’s residence along with his mother, seven younger brothers and one younger sister.  His occupation was as a laborer.

    He enlisted in Davidson’s Company on March 15th, 1862 at Quincy, Gadsden County, Florida.  He was appointed 1st Corporal on August 1st, 1862.  John was with the company from his enlistment until October 16th, 1862, when he was mortally wounded by the accidental discharge of a gun at Big Hill, Kentucky.  He was left behind at Richmond, Kentucky and died from his wounds on January 1st, 1863.
