George Washington Watson, Jr at Camp Walton, Florida, enlisted in Company E, Florida 1st Infantry Battalion (Confederate) on 01 Mar 1862. Mustered out on 15 Aug 1862.Transferred to Company E, Florida 1st Infantry Regiment on 15 Aug 1862.Mustered out on 08 Oct 1862 at Perryville, Kentucky.

George W Watson fought in the Battle of Shiloh and Battle of Perryville. He was shot through the body and killed at Battle of Perryville, he was the first man in his company killed in this battle. He died in the arms of his commander, Capt. A.B. McLeod. He is buried in an unmarked Confederate grave alongside the others who fought & died.

George was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Brooks. They had six children: Mary Elizabeth Watson Rogers, Wilson Allen Watson, Burton H. Watson, John William Watson, Martha Ann Frances Watson Rogers, and Susan Isabel Watson Rogers. All three sons enlisted.in the military and served as Civil War Soldiers. Because George's wife Ruth had passed away, and George and his three sons had gone to war, his three daughters were left at home to take care of themselves and the homestead. All three of the Watson daughters each married a Rogers who were all related to Jesse Rogers, Sr.
