EARLY LIFE: Darius Hill Skipworth was born to John Skipper and Lucretia Hawkins in Maury County, Tennessee, on August 22, 1825. Sometime between 1840 and 1843, Darius, his mother, and select siblings made the trek to Muhlenberg County, Kentucky. It was in Todd County, Kentucky, that Darius married Nancy Jane Meek on October 26, 1843. They had 10 children together.

SERVICE: On October 20, 1861, Darius joined his nation's call, when he enlisted in Company B of the 11th Kentucky Infantry. Darius quickly became a 2nd Sergeant, working his way up from his original rank of a private in a very short time. He enlisted with his brothers (Miles and Eli), his nephews (Alexander Farris and John H. Skipworth) and his nephew-in-law (William C. Harris), who enlisted in Company I of the same regiment. Darius saw action at the Battle of Shiloh (or Pittsubrg Landing) when the Army of the Ohio landed at Pittsburg Landing the night of the 6th of April, 1862. Darius frequently recruited near his home (by order of General Don Carlos Buell). Darius once even chased down deserters (those who left the army without permission). According to 11th Kentucky Infantry captain, William F. Ward, Darius was an "excellent soldier." Darius departed this life April 8, 1863, of erisypelas.
