Harvard John Speakman, 75, Honesdale, died peacefully Saturday morning, May 23, 1998 at home following an illness. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, the former Mary Mikolaichik. The couple were married November 27, 1955.

Born May 31, 1923 in Portland, Oregon, he was the son of the late Harvard C. and Beulla A. Ross Speakman. He was a graduate of Shamokin High School, Class of 1942, and was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations. He was employed as a precision sheet metal worker for the A.C. Phy Shecunetal Co., Willow Grove, until retiring in 1985. He was a resident of Honesdale for the past 12 years, moving
from Chalfont, Bucks County. He was an active member of the Central United Methodist Church, Honesdale, and was a former active member of the Chalfoni and Willow Grove Methodist Church. He was also a wood carver and a member of the Delaware Valley Wood Carvers and the National Woodcarvers Association.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one uncle, Vernon Ross of Alaska; nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held Thursday, May 28,1998 at 9:30 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church, with services by the Rev. Gregory C. Myers. Private graveside services will be at the Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.

Friends may visit at the Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main Street, Honesdale, on Wednesday, May 28, from 7-9 p.m.
