Following the fall of Corregidor, Stevens spent the rest of the war in a Japanese Prisoner of War Camp in Northern Virginia, and weighed 85 pounds when he was rescued:

Lyle W. Stevens was a First Sergeant in the Army during World War II. Lyle was captured by Imperial Japan while serving in the Philippine Islands, and was sent to Hakodate Main Camp near Bibai, Hokkaido, Japan where 97 other American POWs were held. Lyle's capture was first reported to the International Committee of the Red Cross on May 7, 1942, and the last report was made on September 29, 1945. Based on these two reports, Lyle was imprisoned for at least 1,241 days (3 years and ~6 months), one of the longest durations of captivity recorded. Ultimately, Lyle was returned to military control, liberated or repatriated.
