abt 1918 — Siberia
Meyer told my father, his son-in-law, that "after the War ended [November, 1918], he was sent on a secret mission to Siberia because he spoke Russian." The United States under President Wilson secretly supported the White Russians against the overthrow of their government by the Reds (Communists). We wanted the Russians to stop fighting against each other and to fight on the eastern front against the Germans. The U.S. mission ended about April, 1920, and was unsuccessful and resulted in casualties. My grandfather was apparently injured and discharged in 1919.
