Remembrances of Chris Keffalos and his family from his days in Bloomfield, New Mexico Posted for: CHRIS ALBERT KEFFALOS: I grew up in Bloomfield, New Mexico, and knew the Keffalos family well. Chris was three years ahead of me in school, in the same class as my older sister Denise, and his younger brother Mike was one year behind me. I can still remember Chris's ready smile, quick wit, and his energetic, flamboyant style of playing the snare drum, especially in the Bobcats Marching Band. I was privileged to play in the Bobcats Band with Chris on a few occasions. I recall with almost crystal clarity attending Chris's funeral with full military honors. I was just at the end of my Sophomore year, and the reality of war and death came suddenly very close to me that day. It is my understanding that Chris was decorated posthumously for the courage and valor he displayed in the action leading to his death. I further understand that because of Chris's unselfish and courageous actions, other young men survived that action who otherwise might not have been so fortunate. I believe that we owe Chris and other men and women like him an unspeakable debt of gratitude for their tremendous sacrifices in serving our country and helping to preserve our freedoms and those of others less fortunate than ourselves. Thank you, Chris, and thank you, Mr. and Mrs. George Keffalos, and thank you, Mike; your sacrifices and your losses have not gone unnoticed.
