Elver Bebe Smith was born 22 July 1923, the son of Herman E. and Carolyn L. Smith. Elver attended Norwalk Public Schools in Norwalk, Huron County, Ohio. On 06 November 1942, Elver enlisted in the Military. After training, he was assigned to 439th AAA AW BN (American Anti-Aircraft Artillery; Barrage Balloon and Coast Artillery Battalions; 439th AAA Auto-Weapons Battalion -Mobile).

ELVER SMITH, 21, COAST GUARD ARTILLERIST, DIES

Word was received here today of the death
of Elver Smith; U.S. Coast artilleryman,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Smith, and
husband of Mrs. Marjorie Smith, of Spring
St., in a hospital in Italy on Jan. 31st,
1944

The cause of Mr. Smith's death was peritonitis.
He was drafted by a local board and left for
the Mediterranean region last August. Relatives
report he was trained at New Jersey, and in
New York State, and also at Shenango, PA.

He leaves to mourn him, his wife, Marjorie
Nestor Smith, a small son, James; his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Smith; two brothers, Orville;
and Donald, both at home; two sisters, Mrs.
George Gale, of Havana, OH; and Mrs. Leonard
Chaffee, of Norwalk, OH.

He was born July 22, 1923.
