Joshua H. Chapman

. H. Chapman was a saddler who lived in Tazewell, Claiborne Co., TN. He first married a Miss Barnett, with whom he had a son, Wm. B. After her death, he again married, this time to a Mrs. Margaret Ellis, whose spouse was likewise deceased. In 1826, Joshua was appointed a justice of the peace, and in 1827 he was named a trustee of the newly established Pleasant Grove Female Academy. He also served as county sheriff at one point. It was Joshua who took much of the testimony in the dispute between Arnold and Lea that arose from the 1829 congressional election. He reportedly died in 1847. His date of birth is currently unknown.
