Capt. Robert Donelson Eaton

C

apt. Robert Donelson Eaton (1772-1854) was the son of Joseph Eaton (1740-1808) and Jennet Unknown, of Grainger Co., TN. On 17 Oct. 1803, he married Jennet (Jenny) Chamberlain (Abt 1770-1851), of Jefferson Co. She was the next-to-the-youngest daughter of Ninian Chamberlain (1718-1804) and Jennet Unknown (Abt 1720-30 Mar. 1784). According to the 1850 census for Anderson Co., both Robert and Jenny were born in VA. A captain in the TN militia, Robert is said to have served in the War of 1812 under Andrew Jackson. For purposes of taxation, TN counties at that time were divided up into militia districts, and the district in which Robert lived bore his name. Robert and Jenny Eaton had five children: Andrew Chamberlain; Margaret; Joseph P.; Jane D.; and Wm. G. Some researchers give Robert's middle name as "Donaldson" rather than "Donelson."
