phraim Oliphant (1717-1794), the son of Duncan Oliphant (1682-1734) of Hunterdon Co., NJ, was the father of nine children, among them John Oliphant (1750-1823), who married Hannah Amos (1756-1814) in Loudoun Co., VA, in 1775. Ephraim was born in Staten Isl., NY, in 1717, and moved with his parents to East Amwell, Hunterdon Co., NJ, around 1721. There, he married Sarah Higgins Stout (1725-1768), of Amwell, in 1743. She was the daughter of Freegift Stout (1693-1769) and Mary Higgins (1698-1773), both of Hunterdon Co. Some time in the 1760s, they moved their family to Loudoun Co., VA, where Ephraim died in 1794.
