Ephraim J Baker was born and raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania on  April 12, 1827. In 1850 he was living in East Lampeter, Lancaster, Pennsylvania as a laborer.

He married Almira Lefever in 1851, they had 2 children, Ephraim was a widower in 1861. His wife Almira died March 28, 1861.

He served in the Union for the state of Ohio during the Civil War from 1861-1865 after he returned home he married Susan Levers-Weiler on March 15, 1866. They had 5 children and moved to Michigan in 1885.

Physical description at age 37, height 5'7", complexion dark, eyes hazel, hair auburn, born Lancaster PA; occupation Engineer
