Stories about Dudley L Oneal

Dudley spent a number of years researching our O'Neal ancestors. A descendant of John O'Neal of GA, he was most helpful and willing to share his family history research with others. He will be missed. His obituary from the 09 June 2004 issue of the Andalusia Star News: Dudley L. O'Neal, Jr. ----------------------------------------------------------- Dudley L. O'Neal, Jr., age 81 of Destin, Fla. passed quietly on June 2, 2004. He was preceded in death by his parents; Dudley L. O'Neal, Sr. and Mary Louise Perrenot O'Neal. Survivors include his wife of 52 years Mildred J. (Mickey) O'Neal; sons and daughters-in-law: Dudley III & Denise O'Neal and Francis & Donnica O'Neal; daughter and son-in-law Lizabeth & Walt Williams; 6 grandchildren; and brother-in-law Ron Johns. During his sophomore year at the Citadel, Dudley enlisted in the army and was selected for officer candidate school, after which he spent time during W.W.II in the South Pacific as an aide de camp. Upon returning home, he attended the University of Alabama Law School. After graduation he went to Washington D.C. to work for the Department of Justice. He later worked 20 years for Senator Sparkman of Alabama, finally as Staff Director of the Banking and Currency Committee. Dudley and Mickey retired from McLean, Va. to Destin, Fla. in 1980.
