Pfc. Ewing L. Reese son of Mrs. Virgil T. Newsome, of Shelbyville, Tn. and husband of Mrs. Jimmie Parkes Reese, of the Lois Community, in this county has been Awarded the SILVER STAR for gallantry in action on April 1, 1945 in the vicinity of Lamershagen, Germany.
When a task force of tanks and an infantry regiment, to which he belonged was halted by devasting panzerfzust fire.
Private Reese and five comrades went to reconnoiter, and if possible eliminate the panzerfausts. Coming upon the enemy on high ground, Private Reese participated in a bold assault which destroyed the position and enabled the tanks to resume their advance. Seven Germans were killed by Private Reese and his comrades, and 14 bazookas were captured.
Private Reese is with the Ninth Army and has been overseas for about a year...
