1963 — Parma, OH
Richard Edward Tamer and I were high school friend. My high school band was call The Stardusters. Richard played Lead Guitar and I played the Organ. Richard's favorite tune was "Guitar Man" and we played that tune at all our gigs, most of them being played at wedding receptions and dances held at local VFW halls and the American Legion Hall on Brookpark Road in Cleveland, OH.
I served in the People's Republic of Viet-Nam Sept. 1966 - Sept. 1967 and when I returned home, I was living in Cincinnati, OH at the time. When I returned home to Parms, OH in 1970 where I grew up and attended Parma Sr High School along with Richard Tamer Class of 1963, it was only then that I learned that Richard was Killed In Action in Viet-Nam.
I attempted to reassemble our former high school band, only to find out that none of our former band members returned home from Viet-Nam. They were all gone. KIA.
Some time ago, I began searching for answers as to where, when and how Richard E. Tamer was KIA. After searching site such as this one, I learned of the unit and company Richard served in. On those sites, I would leave messages asking for information from anyone who may have known and/or served with Richard Tamer. This past summer of 2012, I received a telephone call. I thought at first it was a soliciting call. When I answered the incoming call, I asked the caller who he was. He replied, "I am a former friend and served with Richard Tamer in Viet-Nam". We spoke about Richard for one hour. After speaking to this former friend and service man, he sent me photographs of Richard along with several other photographs the Tamer Family had never seen or know of. I intend to present these photographs to the Richard Tamer Family, brothers and sister when we meet for lunch along with other former Parma Sr High School classmates this summer.
