Charles Edward "Eddie" Fahey born 28 March, 1910 to Patrick H and Kathryn E (Foley) Fahey in Center, Kansas. "Eddie" had four brothers and two sisters.

Mrs Vega (McMahon) Fahey met her second husband) Charles Edward Fahey, on a trip to Mexico. He was the tour guide and later an executive in travel and banking divisions of American Express. They lived for 26 years in Mexico where she began creating material for a future book. A devout Catholic since age 19, Mrs. Fahey was instrumental in the development of two organizations devoted to aid the indigent native Indians in remote provinces of Mexico. She served as public relations, publicity and fundraising director for both organizations, which resulted in houses made of stone instead of cactus,roads insead of horse trails,and food brought to millions for the Catholic Relief Services in the US. She and her husband also opened their home in Mexico City to visiting prelates from the US and missionaries in Central America. The Faheys retired to Guadalajara for five years before returning to the US permanently in 1973. The Faheys lived in Prescott, Arizona, until he died there in 1983.

My great uncle was Charles Edward Fahey, who was the brother of my maternal grandfather Frances Bryan Fahey. He was born March 28, 1910 in Center (outside of Troy), Kansas to Patrick Henry Fahey and Kathryn Elizabeth (Foley) Fahey, and had four brothers and two sisters. He died on June 17, 1983 in Prescott, Arizona. As you might have seen on Find A Grave, I was able to locate a picture of his grave marker, which indicated he served in the U.S. Army (I’m uncertain if it was in the Air Corps). I have no further information about Charles’s military service, but I do believe he enlisted in the Chicago area.

Sadly I never met “Uncle Eddie” as my mother Barbara (Fahey) Salmon fondly refers to him. She and her sister Mary Catherine were made to start calling Uncle Eddie “Uncle Charles” once he met and married his wife Vega. She didn’t like the way Eddie sounded with Vega, and instructed the family to start using his given name. It was too late for the Family to heed to “Aunt Vega’s” request and sadly, it really bothered her. The entire family attended their marriage in Chicago around 1947-48, where the majority of the family moved to after great-grandfather Patrick passed away in 1923. My mother fondly remembers it being a lavish affair, with several important members of the clergy in attendance (Aunt Vega was a devout and generous Catholic). She was a quite a character. As my mother tells me Vega was beautiful woman, and full of life.

My mother Barbara (Fahey) Salmon lived with Aunt Vega and Uncle Eddie for a brief period in Mexico City in the early 1950s while attending a semester at the University of Mexico. As you’ve noted Charles Fahey was an executive with American Express, living in Mexico City for 26 years before retiring to Guadalajara, where they stayed for 5 years before moving to Prescott. After Uncle Eddie passed away Vega moved to Albuquerque, but then moved back to Prescott a few years later, before finally returning to Albuquerque, where she resided at St. Mary’s Retirement Home until her death.

I do believe Vega was either buried in Albuquerque or her ashes were interred elsewhere. I have called all three funeral homes in Prescott, and learned that her remains were never sent to Prescott, nor is she buried next to Charles (Uncle Eddie). Perhaps she is interred next to her first husband James Robert McMahon, who died in 1946 at the age of 44 in New York City. Aunt Vega and Uncle Eddie were married later in life, and consequently never had children. They were close however to Vega’s first husband’s nephews and nieces, which leads me to believe one of them arranged the funeral arrangements for Vega. I really don’t know the answer, but am continuing to research.

Barbara Ennis Connolly, 57th Bomb Wing Historical Researcher/Historian and friend of Mrs Vega Fahey while in Prescott where Barbara lives now…… Vega was always larger than life… flamboyant, well-dressed, always "proper" and VERY religious…. she attended Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church as often as she could get a ride…. in her later years she was hard of hearing. Vega was always the "Queen of the show" and gracious beyond measure.
