Herman George, a resident of St. Joseph's Home since 1966, died this morning, March 25, 1970 in Freeport Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He farmed in Stephenson County until 1945 when he retired to Freeport.

Mr. George was born in Germany December 16, 1879, son of Frederick and Louisa (Kortman) George. He came to the United States at the age of 5. On January 31, 1900 he married Agnes Springman in Freeport. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. Surviving are his widow, also a resident of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Rees of Freeport and Mrs. Clarence (Doris) Brinkmeier of Pearl City; a son, Karl of Freeport; 11 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. A son, a daughter, two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Walker Mortuary. The Rev. Nels Bengtson, pastor of First Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary. A memorial fund has been established.
