Born to Dr. Roderick Hugh Sr. and Leonore M. (Cook) Maguire, he married Charlotte E. Ashley.

She survives, along with eight children, Dr. John (Joyce) Maguire, Michael (Linda) Maguire, Susan Maguire, James (Joyce) Maguire, Kathy (Mike) Moran, William (Gina) Maguire, Mary Anne Maguire and Kevin (Farzenah) Maguire; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mary Alice Riopelle and one brother, Jack Maguire.

He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated from Northwestern University Medical School. He joined his father in medical practice in 1945, and then continued practicing medicine in Canton for fifty years. He served as past Chief of Staff and Head of Surgery at Graham Hospital.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War.
