Marriage to Annie Belle DILLOWWashington,D.C.,USA Lloyd Lionel Stokes Added by TereKr on 30 Sep 2007

Lloyd Lionel Stokes came here about 1909, with his mother Hettie Stokes 1865-1912, four brothers, Lloyd, 1886-1947, Fenton Stokes, Malcolm Stokes and David Stokes, from Pitt County, NC.  I believe Her Husband Henry was already deceased, as the 1890 city directory, for DC has her listed as a widow.  Hettie was a seamstress in DC.  Lloyd, my grandfather, was a painter for most of the hotels down in DC, the Mayflower, Hilton, Willard, etc.  My father Albert Lionel Stokes, 1913-1992, started painting with him at the age of 12.  My dad attended Randall Highlands on Penn. and 30th st. SE.  I never got to meet my granddad but some say he was a pretty good person.  Times were hard back then, so I am assuming that is why they came to reside in DC from NC.
