U.S. congressman Wally Herger was in attendance, and presented documents of special recognition to several surviving World War II veterans, for exceptionally meritorious service in that conflict. The recognition was on behalf of the French government, which just recently determined to honor these veterans. Local "royalty" (Miss Butte County, Miss Teen Butte County, and Missette Butte County from 2007) were also in attendance, and participated in the program, along with a variety of additional local personalities who have received recognition in varied areas. Our veterans were also honored by a fly-by of aircraft from Beale Air Force Base, who performed a traditional "Missing Man" flyby during the ceremony, and additionaly personnel from the airbase also fired off rifle volleys in a traditional military salute to veterans. The day's events were also covered by local news media, with TV cameras rolling during the ceremony.
