Our Powell County cousins say that Benjamin was brother to John L Martin of Montgomery Co, Ky who was born in 1799 in North Carolina, and that John married Rutha Hanks sister of Priscilla Hanks. Their children would have been double first cousins. Our cousins also say that the Martins were "Red Irish" and came from England and that Benjamin's middle name is James. However, Benjamin's middle name is listed as JEFFERSON on his daughter Rutha Jane's death certificate.

I spoke with Nora Lee Walters on the telephone March 3, 2007. She told me that the homeplace of Benjamin and Priscilla Martin is still standing. Originally it was a log cabin and there exists a picture of this cabin that I can't wait to see! The property came into possession of a cousin, Beulah Knox, who had the home sided and painted green. The homeplace is now owned by Beulah's son William "Bill" Perry of Lexington, KY.
