anford served with the 43rd 169th Infantry in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. They were involved in every major beachhead/battle during the war. He arrived in New Zealand on his 22nd birthday in 1942 and arrived home in 1946. A long way to travel for a country boy from West Virginia.
