Leo Kaidan was my grandfather. When I knew him, he loved to tell stories about his adventures in Russia. He would sit at the kitchen table, bald headed and red bearded and relive his sojurns in the wilds of Russia, his eyes twinkling with excitement. In his early youth he travelled the backroads repairing watches and clocks. He met people from all walks of life, often traveling across the snow in a horse drawn sleigh. In 1900 he emigrated to the US with his brother. Their destination was Michigan. Sometime after arrival, they quarelled and Leo settled in Massachusetts where he worked as a chemist for a paper company in Haverill until retirement. He was a peaceful and kind man yet he never forgot his sense of fun and adventure. It was absolutley contagious :)
