As a facility for advanced naval training for the U.S. military, on October 6, 1884, the Naval War College was founded at a seaport in Rhode Island. The college was formed fot the main purpose of developing new ideas for naval warfare, working in conjunction with the U.S. Navy. In addition, from 1887 on, the college participated in various war games, used for the development of new war plans.
