George Hamm was born and raised in Medford, Wisconsin. In his 20s he married Emma Paugel and had two children with her. Unfortunately, Emma and George's brother Fred, took a shine to one another and ran off together with the two children. George took this hard, and indulged in activities that led to his being sent to Waupun Prison for two years, sometime around 1918. After getting out of prison he pretty much behaved himself and settled on the family farm with his sister Lydia, where they both kept it running until Lydia died in the 1950s, at which time the farm and land was sold, George having passed on a few years earlier.
