Cricket on the Wall I grew up with Richard E. (Eugene) Smith in Cincinnati; he was such a good friend during our early teen years. I shall never forget him; he is still 19 & I am now 58. I Loved Him & think of him always.

Member Suggestions: Date of Birth: This date of 1938 is on every index I have found of Richard Eugene Smith being born in 1938. He died in 1968 when I was 18 and he was only one year older than I so I know he was born in 1948; not 1938 andI was at the services so I know he was only about a year older than I as we all hung out together back then; I do wish someone in charge of the index for not just here but whoever in the Armed Services responsible for the information would please get the correct information on a young man that lost his life, never had the chance to marry, or have a family; a young man a lot of us loved; so if someone knows how to get this changed please notify the proper office of the Armed Services. He should have at least the correct information about him and his birth and death. It was probably just a typo sometime ago but it does need to be corrected. thank you never forgotten. Age: 19

Thank you Marine for your service to this great nation and to our Corps.....

Standing here in front of the Wall
silently reading your name
solemnly I thank you one and all
Each of you different, yet the same

The list seems forever endless
but I remember your faces
you made the supreme sacrifice, I confess
as I walk slowly with measured paces

Each one of you answered the call
willingly or not, you gave your lives
Rest easy, my Brothers - heroes all
The Nation still survives

"War drew us from our homeland

In the sunlit springtime of our youth.

Those who did not come back alive remain

in perpetual springtime -- forever young --

And a part of them is with us always."

Richard Eugene Smith

I am sorry but his age at death is in error.  I grew up with him and he was 18 at the time of death; not 28.   I hope this can be corrected since he does deserve that.   With a name like Smith it would be difficult if someone is researching him and the wrong age is listed.  I know how old he was because his birthday was in Dec and mine was in January; only 1 month later.  I do not know how the wrong info was put on here but I do know it is easy to make an error while typing information.  I sincerely hope someone can correct this for this young man who never had the chance to have a family of his own.

Thank You

RJ in Cincinnati
