My daughter and I had the opportunity to see the traveling repilica of the Vietnam War Memorial at a local cemetary here in our hometown of Columbia, SC last January. It was a very moving experience for me as I was born on November 11, 1957. I have always been proud to be a Veteran's Day birthday baby!
I was able to locate my POW's name and also was able to etch out a copy of his name from the wall. I also located a friend of mine's POW as well and was able to etch out a copy of his name.
My father served in WWII in the Pacific Theatre both in Australia and in the Phillipines. After the war he married my mother and retired a Lt. Col from the U.S. Army. He died suddenly back in 1974 but if he were here today I know he would love to have seen the replicia of the Vietnam War Memorial was well.
I hope one day to go to Washington, DC and see the real Vietnam War Memorial and once again etch a copy of my POW from the wall.
