History of the Sknepneck Family
My great Grandfather Paul Sknepnek was born in Austria-Hungary in 1867. He married Anna Siics and had five children: Bill, Frank, Andrew, Nell and Paul. He died around 1941. His wife died in 1932 at the age of 57 of heart failure. My Great grandfather was a difficult strong minded personality. None of his children wanted to take him in when he got older. Instead they pooled their money and sent him to a German speaking retirement home where he later died. My grandfather was Paul J. Skepnek ( he changed his name). He was also born in Austria-Hungary in the year 1903. He came to the U.S. at the age of 6 and attended school until he was 14 when he started working for the Chicago Stock Exchange as a runner. He later became a broker during World War I because all the experienced brokers went to war. He was successful. At age 17 he met his future wife Helen Quinn at her cousins party. They courted for five years and married at age 22. They had three children: Jeanne Marie (my mother), Patricia and Joan. My grandfather died of a stroke on November 5, 1963.
