Following the successful detonation of a nuclear bomb in New Mexico in 1945, pilots of the B-29 bomber Enola Gay drop an atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. The attack, supported by President Harry Truman, instantly annihilated thousands of Japanese civilians, in an effort to push the Japanese towards surrender. Despite the damage, the Japanese government was relentless, leading the allies to drop a second bomb on Nagasaki, just days later. The unconditional surrender of Japan in August 1945 was the end of World War Two in the Pacific, and ended years of Japanese totalitarian control over Asia.
