A innovation in the monitoring of automobile traffic, on August 5, 1914, the 1st electric traffic light was installed in Cleveland, Ohio. Produced by the American Traffic Signal Company, the light had two colors: red and green, with a signal for drivers to know when the lights changed colors. The creator, James Hoge, designed the traffic signal to allow police and fire workers to control traffic in case of an emergency. Other signal lights soon followed, with changes in the color and frequency of light changes.
