In a surprising revelation, on June 17, 1972, five White House Operatives were arrested after apparently burglarizing Democratic National Campaign Headquarters. Uncovered by two reporters from The Washington Post, the event lead to a full investigation of President Nixon's reelection actiivites, and cover-ups by the government. The Watergate Trial, as it came to be known, led to the resignation of Nixon in 1974, and was a well-publicized media event.
