Franklin D. Powers, 64, of Clinchco, died Saturday, November 1, 1997, in Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem. The youngest child of Barnum S. and Audrey Colley Powers, he was born in Clinchco on July 28, 1933.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James C. Powers.

Shortly after graduating from Clinchco High School, Frank entered a career with the U.S. Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer to his beloved Dickenson County in 1975.

He served on many naval bases and several ships, but it seemed that ''his"" ship was the aircraft carrier USS Ranger, CV-7, on which he served during the Viet Nam War.

Funeral services will be conducted by Mullins Funeral Home in Clintwood at 2 p.m. Monday, November 3, 1997, with interment in Phipps Memorial Cemetery.
