Just years following the successful invention and testing of the airplane, on May 15, 1918, the U.S. Post Office Department began regular global airmail service. The airplane had proved its efficiency in World War One, and was instituted as a viable communication and travel option for use in commerical activity. Other mail organization soon adopted the same practice and became a worldwide phenomenon.
