Following months of intense opposition from the Germany Army, on May 2, 1945, the Soviet Union finally captured the German capital, and raised their flag over the Reichstag Parliament building. Germany unconditionally surrendered just days after and effectvely ended World War Two in Europe. Berlin was left in ruins, and citizens suffered tremendously with the advance of the Soviets throughout the German capital.
