The Revolutionary War took a dramatic turn with the fighting of the Battle of Lexington and Concord on Apr. 19, 1775 in Massachusetts.  The British Regulars were surprised at the continued reinforcement of American minutemen, who forced the British back to Boston after being overwhelmingly outnumbered.  The battle marked a significant point in the war, as the British underestimated the power of the colonial armies.
