Tsar Nicholas II abdicates the Russian throne and his brother the Grand Duke becomes Tsar.

Russian throne up for grabs with Tsar Nicholas II abdication.

Following a tumultuous period of internal dissention, on Mar. 15, 1917, Tsar Nicholas II abdicated the Russian throne.  Ceding to pressure with the growing Bolshevik revolution, the government was shaken up, with the Grand Duke becoming Tsar, leading to Russia leaving the First World War.
